BACKGROUND: Head and neck squamous carcinoma (HNSCC) is known for its high aggressiveness and susceptibility to cervical lymph node metastasis, which greatly contributes to its poor prognosis. During tumorigenesis, many types of cancer cells acquire oncogenic super-enhancers (SEs) that drive the overexpression of oncogenes, thereby maintaining malignant progression. This study aimed to identify and validate the role of oncogenic SE-associated genes in the malignant progression of HNSCC. METHODS: We identified HNSCC cell-specific SE-associated genes through H3K27Ac ChIP-seq and overlapped them with HNSCC-associated genes obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets using weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) to identify hub genes. The expression of IGF2BP2 and KLF7 in HNSCC was detected using clinical samples. To determine the biological role of IGF2BP2, we performed CCK-8, colony formation assay, Transwell migration assay, invasion assay, and orthotopic xenograft model experiments. Furthermore, we utilized a CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing system, small-molecule inhibitors, ChIP-qPCR, and dual-luciferase reporter assays to investigate the molecular mechanisms of IGF2BP2 and its upstream transcription factors. RESULTS: Our study identified IGF2BP2 as a hub SE-associated gene that exhibited aberrant expression in HNSCC tissues. Increased expression of IGF2BP2 was observed to be linked with malignant progression and unfavorable prognosis in HNSCC patients. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed that IGF2BP2 promotes the tumorigenicity and metastasis of HNSCC by promoting cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Mechanistically, the IGF2BP2-SE region displayed enrichment for H3K27Ac, BRD4, and MED1, which led to the inhibition of IGF2BP2 transcription and expression through deactivation of the SE-associated transcriptional program. Additionally, KLF7 was found to induce the transcription of IGF2BP2 and directly bind to its promoter and SE regions. Moreover, the abundance of KLF7 exhibited a positive correlation with the abundance of IGF2BP2 in HNSCC. Patients with high expression of both KLF7 and IGF2BP2 showed poorer prognosis. Lastly, we demonstrated that the small molecule inhibitor JQ1, targeting BRD4, attenuated the proliferation and metastatic abilities of HNSCC cells. CONCLUSIONS: Our study reveals the critical role of IGF2BP2 overexpression mediated by SE and KLF7 in promoting HNSCC progression. Targeting SE-associated transcriptional programs may represent a potential therapeutic strategy in managing HNSCC.

Developing high mass loading cathodes with high capacity and durable life cycles is greatly worthwhile and challenging for alkaline aqueous rechargeable Zn-based batteries (AAZBs). Herein, we demonstrate an efficient zinc-induced strategy to rationally develop Zn-Ni-Co carbonate hydroxides/hydroxides heterostructure nanosheet array with an extremely high mass loading of 9.2 mg cm-2 on Ni foam (ZNC/NF) as such a superior cathode for AAZBs. It is discovered that Ni-Co hydroxide nanowires can be transformed into Zn-Ni-Co carbonate hydroxides/hydroxides heterostructure nanosheet with rich defect structures after the introduction of Zn during the synthetic process. The formed heterostructures and rich defect structures can enhance ion and electron transfer efficiency, thus ensuring the excellent electrochemical performance under high loading condition. Consequently, the ZNC/NF//Zn battery shows an outstanding areal capacity of 2.1 mAh cm-2 at 5 mA cm-2, with an ultrahigh energy density of 3.6 mWh cm-2. Moreover, the battery can still retain a high capacity of 0.42 mAh cm-2 after 5000 cycles at 50 mA cm-2, suggesting strong long-term cycling stability. This research enables pave the way for the rational design and manufacture of advanced electrode materials with large mass loadings.

Ferroptosis is a newly established form of regulated cell death characterized by intracellular lipid peroxidation and iron accumulation that may be a promising cancer treatment strategy. However, the function and therapeutic value of ferroptosis in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remain inadequately understood. In the present study, we investigated the biological role of the fat mass and obesity-associated gene (FTO) in ferroptosis in the context of OSCC. We found that OSCC had greater potential for ferroptosis, and FTO is associated with ferroptosis. Furthermore, higher FTO expression sensitized OSCC cells to ferroptosis in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, FTO suppressed the expression of anti-ferroptotic factors, acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 3 (ACSL3) and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), by demethylating the m6A modification on the mRNA of ACSL3 and GPX4 and decreasing their stability. Taken together, our findings revealed that FTO promotes ferroptosis through ACSL3 and GPX4 regulation. Thus, ferroptosis activation in OSCC with high FTO levels may serve as a potential therapeutic target.

Background: The cyclin-dependent kinase subunit 2 (CKS2) is recognized to have a substantial impact on the pathogenesis and advancement of several malignant neoplasms. Nevertheless, its biological function and prognostic significance in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) have yet to be thoroughly investigated. Our primary objective was to clarify the contribution of CKS2 in the progression and prognosis of OSCC. Methods: We first conducted a thorough examination of online databases to investigate the expression of CKS2, and subsequently corroborated our discoveries by analyzing clinical specimens that we collected. According to the clinicopathological data, we then explored the prognostic significance of CKS2. Furthermore, we predicted the role of CKS2 in OSCC progression by employing weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) in conjunction with functional enrichment analysis. We conducted functional experiments in vitro to confirm our speculations. Additionally, we explored other potential functions of CKS2 in immune infiltration, tumor mutation burden (TMB), and drug sensitivity. Finally, we established and validated a nomogram that effectively integrated CKS2-related genes and other relevant clinical factors. Results: Our findings indicated a significant upregulation of CKS2 expression in OSCC tissues compared to normal groups, which was positively associated with poor clinical outcomes. We also predicted and validated the role of CKS2 in promoting proliferation by regulating the cell cycle. Additionally, its upregulation was significantly correlated to enhanced immune cell infiltration, high TMB, and increased sensitivity of anti-tumor agents. Following verification, the nomogram was conducted to quantify an individual's survival probability. Conclusions: In general, our study indicates that CKS2 is a novel prognostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target in OSCC.

BACKGROUND: The expression of the Bcl-2 protein is frequently observed in basal cell carcinomas (BCCs), making it a significant biological marker and potential therapeutic target. Skin ultrasonography offers a noninvasive means of obtaining anatomical information about cutaneous tumors. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between ultrasound features and Bcl-2 expression in BCCs, to provide a reference for developing pharmacological treatment plans. METHODS: According to the Bcl-2 protein expression, 74 BCCs confirmed by surgical pathology were divided into high Bcl-2 expression BCCs (HB-BCCs) and low Bcl-2 expression BCCs (LB-BCCs). Preoperative lesion ultrasound features were analyzed retrospectively based on Liang's criteria, which included the following features: shape, surface, keratinization, base, infiltration level, internal echogenicity, distribution of hyperechoic spots, posterior echogenic changes, internal Doppler signal, and lesion size (maximum diameter and infiltration depth). The differences of two groups were compared using a chi-square test or a paired t-test. RESULTS: Based on ultrasound features, cystic areas were more frequent in LB-BCCs (χ2 = 7.015, P = .008). Furthermore, LB-BCCs exhibited greater infiltration depth than HB-BCCs (4.86 ± 2.12 mm vs. 2.72 ± 1.40 mm, P = .000), had a higher propensity to infiltrate the subcutaneous tissue (χ2 = 12.422, P = .002), and displayed a more abundant internal Doppler signal within the lesions (χ2 = 24.696, P = .000). Conversely, maximum diameter of the lesions, shape, surface, keratinization, base, hyperechoic spots distribution, and posterior echogenic changes of the lesions did not differ significantly between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: Ultrasound features are correlated with Bcl-2 protein expression level in BCCs. LB-BCCs show greater infiltration depth, subcutaneous infiltration, more cystic changes and more abundant internal Doppler signal than HB-BCCs, which may suggest a potential basis for drug selection in BCC chemotherapy.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) plays crucial roles in tumorigenesis and autophagy. However, the underlying mechanisms mediated by m6A and autophagy in the malignant progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remain unclear. In the present study, we revealed that down-regulated expression of METTL14 was correlated with advanced clinicopathological characteristics and poor prognosis in OSCC. METTL14 knockdown significantly inhibited autophagy and facilitated malignant progression in vitro, and promoted tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. A cell model of rapamycin-induced autophagy was established to identify RB1CC1 as a potential target gene involved in m6A-regulated autophagy in OSCC, through RNA sequencing and methylated RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing (meRIP-seq) analysis. Mechanistically, we confirmed that METTL14 posttranscriptionally enhanced RB1CC1 expression in an m6A-IGF2BP2-dependent manner, thereby affecting autophagy and progression in OSCC, through methylated RNA immunoprecipitation qRT-PCR (meRIP-qPCR), RNA stability assays, mutagenesis assays and dual-luciferase reporter. Collectively, our findings demonstrated that METTL14 serves as an OSCC suppressor by regulating the autophagy-related gene RB1CC1 through m6A modification, which may provide a new insight for the diagnosis and therapy of OSCC.

Purpose: We sought to reveal the clinical characteristics of lateral ventricle tumors and to evaluate the superior surgical procedure available. Methods: There involved a total of of 49 adult patients harboring lateral ventricle tumors in neurosurgery department of our hospital from January 2016 to March 2022. The patients enrolled were retrospectively analyzed, so are their clinical manifestations, pathological characteristics and surgical strategies. The patients were allocated into neuroendoscope group (11 cases) and microsurgery group (38 cases) according to the operation method. The two groups underwent a detailed evaluation of operation effectiveness and safety profile (operation time, intraoperative bleeding, surgical resection rate, postoperative complications) and economic indicators (postoperative hospital stay, hospital costs). Results: The neuroendoscope group demonstrated a markedly shorter operation time than the microsurgery group (p<0.05), with the amount of bleeding significantly less than the microsurgery group (p<0.01). However, there was no significant difference in the resection rate and postoperative complications between the two groups (p>0.05). Significant difference was found in the economic indicators (postoperative hospital stay and hospital costs) of the patients in the neuroendoscope group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Surgery intervention is regarded as the core treatment option for lateral ventricle tumors. Both microsurgery and neuroendoscopy are effective with safety profile. In the selected lateral ventricle tumor surgery, the application of neuroendoscopic surgery showed promising results, in terms of less intraoperative bleeding, and shorter operation time, postoperative hospital stays, and hospital costs. The selection of surgical approach and methods for lateral ventricle tumors is principally depended on the experience of neurosurgeon concerning the surgical approach and related neuroanatomy.

Objectives: This study aimed to construct and validate a predictive risk model (PRM) for nosocomial infections with multi-drug resistant organism (MDRO) in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), in order to provide a scientific and reliable prediction tool, and to provide reference for clinical prevention and control of MDRO infections in NICUs. Methods: This multicenter observational study was conducted at NICUs of two tertiary children's hospitals in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Using cluster sampling, eligible neonates admitted to NICUs of research hospitals from January 2018 to December 2020 (modeling group) or from July 2021 to June 2022 (validation group) were included in this study. Univariate analysis and binary logistic regression analysis were used to construct the PRM. H-L tests, calibration curves, ROC curves and decision curve analysis were used to validate the PRM. Results: Four hundred and thirty-five and one hundred fourteen neonates were enrolled in the modeling group and validation group, including 89 and 17 neonates infected with MDRO, respectively. Four independent risk factors were obtained and the PRM was constructed, namely: P = 1/ (1+ e-X), X = -4.126 + 1.089× (low birth weight) +1.435× (maternal age ≥ 35 years) +1.498× (use of antibiotics >7 days) + 0.790× (MDRO colonization). A nomogram was drawn to visualize the PRM. Through internal and external validation, the PRM had good fitting degree, calibration, discrimination and certain clinical validity. The prediction accuracy of the PRM was 77.19%. Conclusion: Prevention and control strategies for each independent risk factor can be developed in NICUs. Moreover, clinical staff can use the PRM to early identification of neonates at high risk, and do targeted prevention to reduce MDRO infections in NICUs.

Recently, 9,10-anthraquinone (AQ) contamination in Chinese Liupao tea has attracted much attention because the tea for export must meet the EU limit (10 µg kg-1). In this study, a method was developed in which the sample was extracted with n-hexane-acetone solution, then purified with Florisil adsorbent, detected by GC-MS/MS and contamination levels of AQ determined using an internal standard. This method was found to be more suitable for Liupao tea and other dark tea complex substrates than the QuEChERS procedure. The sample pre-treatment method was optimized with respect to extraction reagent and clean-up column adsorbent and n-hexane-acetone selected as the optimal extraction solvent. When the content of Florisil in the column was 1.0 g, the optimum clean-up was achieved. The new method reduced the limit of quantification (LOQ) of AQ to 10 µg kg-1, and accuracy was also further improved. The recovery of AQ-fortified tea samples containing 20-100 µg·kg-1 was 94.5-100.4%, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) was less than 1.3%. In a small survey, 98 Liupao tea samples on the market were tested by the new method. It was found that 61 samples were positive (occurrence rate 63.3%), and thus exceeded the EU limit (10 µg kg-1). This study also found that the contamination of AQ in Liupao tea increased with the length of ageing. The source of AQ in the Liupao tea ageing process will be the focus of further research.

BACKGROUND: The mass production of natural predators with prolonged shelf life is a prerequisite for their field application as pest control agents. The traditional methods used for the mass production of Serangium japonicum rely heavily on the consistent supply of natural prey. This study explains the effects of B. tabaci (natural prey) and C. cephalonica eggs (alternative food) on life history and transcriptome profile of S. japanicum. METHODS: This study compares the effects of B. tabaci (natural prey) and C. cephalonica eggs (alternative food) on biology, reproduction, and predatory efficacy, and transcriptome profile of S. japanicum. RESULTS: This study revealed that S. japonicum was able to successfully complete its life cycle while feeding on B. tabaci (natural prey) and C. cephalonica eggs (alternative food). The C. cephalonica eggs fed S. japonicum individuals had longer developmental period and lower fecundity as compared to those feeding on whitefly but the survival rates (3rd instar nymphs, 4th instar nymphs and pupae) and predatory efficacy of C. cephalonica eggs fed S. japonicum individuals were significantly similar to to those feeding on whitefly.Transcriptome analysis showed that when faced with dietary changes, S. japanicum could successfully feed on C. cephalonica eggs by regulating genes related to nutrient transport, metabolism, and detoxification. Moreover, S. japanicum degraded excess cellular components through ribosomal autophagy and apoptosis, which provided sufficient materials and energy for survival and basic metabolism. CONCLUSION: Corcyra cephalonica eggs can be used as an alternate host for the predator, Serangium japonicum, as the survival rates and predatory efficacy of the predator are similar to those feeding on the natural host (B.tabaci). When faced with dietary changes, S. japanicum could successfully feed on C. cephalonica eggs as revealed by upregulation of genes related to nutrient transport, metabolism, and detoxification. These findings are of great significance for studying the functional evolution of S. japonicum in response to dietary changes.

Green tides, a worldwide problem, are harmful to aquaculture, tourism, marine ecosystems, and maritime traffic. Currently, green tide detection relies on remote sensing (RS) images, which are often missing or unusable. Thus, the observation and detection of green tides cannot be performed daily, which makes it difficult to improve environmental quality and ecological health. To address this problem, this study proposed a novel green tide estimation framework (GTEF) through convolutional long short-term memory, which learned the historical spatial-temporal seasonal and trend patterns of green tides from 2008 to 2021 and fused the previously observed or estimated data and biological (optional) and physical (optional) data over the preceding seven days when RS images were absent or unusable for daily observation and detection tasks. The results showed that the overall accuracy (OA), false-alarm rating (FAR), and missing-alarm rating (MAR) of the GTEF were 0.9592 ± 0.0375, 0.0885 ± 0.1877 and 0.4315 ± 0.2848, respectively. The estimated results described the green tides in terms of attributes, geometry and position features. Especially in the latitudinal features, the Pearson correlation coefficient of the predicted data and observed data were over 0.8 (P < 0.05), which showed a strong correlation. In addition, this study also discussed the role of biological and physical factors in the GTEF. Sea surface salinity may be the dominant factor in the early stages of green tides; in the late stage, solar irradiance may be the dominant factor. Sea surface winds and sea surface currents also played a significant role in green tide estimation. Results showed the OA, FAR and MAR of the GTEF which, with physical factors but without biological factors, were 0.9556 ± 0.0389, 0.1311 ± 0.3338 and 0.4297 ± 0.3180, respectively. In short, the proposed approach could generate a daily map of green tides, even if RS images were missing or unusable.

The association of exosomal RNA profiling and pathogenesis of moyamoya disease (MMD) and intracranial Atherosclerotic disease (ICAD) is unknown. In this study, we investigated the RNA profiles of sEV (small extracellular vesicles)/exosomes in patients with MMD and ICAD. Whole blood samples were collected from 30 individuals, including 10 patients with MMD, 10 patients with ICAD, and 10 healthy individuals. Whole transcriptome analysis was performed using the GeneChip WT Pico Reagent kit. Transcriptional correlation was verified using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The association between functional dysregulation and candidate RNAs was studied in vitro. In total, 1,486 downregulated and 2,405 upregulated RNAs differed significantly between patients with MMD and healthy controls. Differential expression of six circRNAs was detected using qPCR. Among these significantly differentially expressed RNAs, IPO11 and PRMT1 circRNAs were upregulated, whereas CACNA1F circRNA was downregulated. This is the first study showing that the differential expression of exosomal RNAs associated with MMD pathogenesis, such as overexpression of IPO11 and PRMT1 circRNAs, may be related to angiogenesis in MMD. The downregulation of CACNA1F circRNA may be related to vascular occlusion. These results propose the utility of exosomal RNAs as biological markers in MMD.

OBJECTIVES: To compare the sonographic characteristics of superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC) and non-superficial basal cell carcinomas (nsBCC). METHODS: The ultrasound characteristics of 73 basal cell carcinoma (BCC) confirmed by surgical pathology were retrospectively analyzed, and the cases were divided into 11 cases of sBCC and 62 cases of nsBCC according to pathological subtypes. Ultrasound characteristics between groups were compared. RESULTS: Among all the ultrasound characteristics, lesion thickness (P = .000), shape (χ2  = 39.293, P = .000), basal changes (χ2  = 8.473, P = .037), infiltration level (χ2  = 46.140, P = .000), and distribution of intralesional hyperechogenic spots (χ2  = 15.699, P = .000) of the lesions had statistically significant correlation with pathological diagnosis of sBCC. While no significant differences were shown in surface morphology, keratinization, maximum diameter, intralesional echogenicity, posterior echogenic changes, and intralesional color Doppler flow of the lesions. CONCLUSIONS: Small lesion thickness, oblate shape, superficial dermal local infiltration, and <3 internal hyperechogenic spots distribution of BCC determined by high frequency ultrasound may positively correlate with pathological diagnosis of sBCC. This is beneficial for treatment planning.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to investigate the value of shear wave elastography (SWE) in determining tumor extent of basal cell carcinomas (BCC), and thereby determine the optimal surgical margins (OSM). METHODS: 10 patients (40 surgical margins) with BCC were collected, the visual observation boundaries (VOB) were marked, and the SWE parameters of soft tissues were measured 1 mm intervals in "3, 6, 9, 12" clock directions, starting from VOB. Then tumors were resected with a 5 mm surgical margin outward expansion of VOB. All specimens were examined pathologically 1 mm intervals from VOB in four clock directions. With the positive margins furthest from the tumor as the real tumor boundaries (RTB) and the negative margins closest to the tumor as the optimal surgical margins (OSM). The SWE parameters were compared between these two groups. RESULTS: The elasticity ratio (Eratio ) of average young's modulus between region of interest and adjacent normal soft tissue had statistically significant differences between groups (P = .000), while other parameters show no difference. The Eratio of RTB and OSM were 1.22 ± 0.14 and 0.99 ± 0.07. The area under the ROC curve was .947. Taking 1.075 as the threshold of Eratio for the diagnosis of tumor extent, the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy were 87.5%, 90.0% and 90.0%. The surgical margins designed according to OSM were better than those designed according to VOB + 5 mm (P = .000). CONCLUSIONS: The Eratio of SWE is helpful in determining tumor extent of BCC. This is beneficial for surgical margin designing.

Green tides, which are widespread problems, are harmful issues that affect the protection of ocean ecosystems and natural resources. Scientific assessment and prevention of the green tides are essential for sustainable planning and the utilization of maritime traffic, tourism, and industry. However, the suitable or risk habitats and their dominant factors of green tides from global perspective are unknown. Here, this study proposed a novel framework to show the habitat suitability and risk of ocean green tides by considering marine environmental factors (i.e., sea surface temperature, sea surface salinity, solar irradiance, chlorophyll-a concentration, and sea surface wind). Through global remote sensing images and marine environmental factor data, this study found that (1) suitable and at-risk green tides areas are located in the north and south temperate zones; (2) marine physical factors are expected to weaken the green tide risk globally and enhance the green tide risk in coastal areas; (3) the green tides in the North Atlantic Ocean and the West Pacific Ocean are dominated by environmental factors and physical factors, respectively; and (4) when reducing carbon to promote sustainability, more potentially suitable green tide areas may appear at high latitudes. The results demonstrate the at-risk location and future trend of green tides, which are helpful for sustainable planning of ocean ecosystems.

At present, the prognostic value of N6-methyladenosine (m6A)-related enhancer RNAs (eRNAs) for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) still remains unclear. Our study aims to explore the prognostic value of m6A-related eRNAs in HNSCC patients and their potential significance in immune infiltration and immunotherapy. We constructed a 5 m6A-related eRNAs risk model from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) HNSCC dataset, using univariate and multivariate Cox and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis. Based on the SRAMP website and in vitro experiments, it was verified that these 5 m6A-related eRNAs had m6A sites, the expression of which was regulated by corresponding m6A regulators. Moreover, we constructed a nomogram base on 5 m6A-related eRNAs and confirmed the consistency and robustness of an internal TCGA testing set. Further analysis found that the risk score was positively associated with low overall survival (OS), tumor cell metastasis, metabolic reprogramming, low immune surveillance, lower expression of immune-related genes, and higher expression of targeted genes. Finally, we verified that silencing MIR4435-2HG inhibited HNSCC cell migration and invasion. This study contributes to the understanding of the characteristics of m6A-related eRNAs in HNSCC and provides a reference for effective immunotherapy and targeted therapy.

Aim: Salivary gland adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC) is the second highest incidence of malignant salivary gland tumor. The purpose of this study was to establish nomograms combined with SACC patients based on the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Methods: Patients with SACC were included in the SEER∗Stat Database from 2004 to 2016. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox regression analysis was applied to filter potential prognostic clinical variables. Multivariate analysis from the Cox proportional hazards model was performed to determine the independent prognostic factors on overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS), applied to develop nomograms. The Schönfeld residual test verified the proportional hazard assumption. The discrimination and consistency of nomograms was assessed and validated according to concordance index (C-index), receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, and calibration curves using an internal 1,000 times bootstrap resampling. The nomogram's net clinical benefit was assessed through decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: A total of 658 patients with SACC were included. Age, T stage, N stage, M stage, histologic grade, and surgery were independent prognostic factors for OS and DSS. Based on these independent prognostic factors, nomograms were developed to predict 3-, 5-, and 10-year OS and DSS. In the validation of 1,000 times bootstrap resampling, the C-index and ROC curves had good discriminatory ability. The calibration curves indicated excellent consistency between the predicted and actual survival results in the nomograms. The DCA curves demonstrated that the nomograms had good clinical benefit and were superior to the TNM stage and other variables. Conclusions: Two nomograms developed in this study precisely predicted the 3-, 5-, and 10-year OS and DSS rates of patients with SACC in accordance with independent prognostic factors, and their clinical value is better than TNM staging, providing a prognostic reference for other SACC patients.

Objective: To assess the validity of the Broselow tape in estimating the weight of Chinese children in pediatric emergency. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the emergency department of the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China) in March 2022. Broselow tape was used to estimate weight and its validity was compared with the advanced child life support (APLS) method. Results: The study included 442 children (mean age: 48 months; male-to-female ratio: 1.13:1). The < 10, 10-19 and > 19-kg groups included 44, 257, and 141 children, respectively. The color concordance rates of the Broselow tape-estimated weight in the three groups were 56.8, 57.2, and 68.1%, respectively. The percentage of weight estimations within 10% of actual weight were 65.8% (59.1, 65.8, and 68.1% for the <10, 10-19 and > 19-kg groups, respectively) and 44.8% (40.9, 50.6, and 35.5% for the < 10, 10-19 and > 19-kg groups, respectively) using the Broselow tape and the APLS method, respectively. The correlation between the Broselow tape estimated weight and actual weight was r = 0.931 (P < 0.0001, 95% CI: 0.918-0.943), while the correlation between actual weight and the APLS method calculated weight was r = 0.883 (P < 0.0001, 95% CI: 0.861-0.902). The mean percentage error using the Broselow tape was 1.0 ± 12.0% (P < 0.001 vs. -7.2 ± 17.2% of the APLS method). Conclusion: The Broselow tape may be an available method for predicting the weights of Chinese children in pediatric emergency.
